What is HSK? A short answer
HSK (Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì, 汉语水平考试, written in plain letters as Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) is the standard test of Chinese for non-native speakers. It is used by universities, employers and scholarship programmes to show how well you know Mandarin.
Who takes the HSK test?
Students applying to study in China or Taiwan, professionals who need proof of language skills and learners who want a clear goal all take the hsk test. Many use it simply as a roadmap for their studies.
How does HSK work?
There are levels rather than one pass or fail. Each level has a vocabulary list and an exam. You take the level that fits you and receive a score. The NewHSK has nine levels from beginner to advanced.
