Privacy Policy

This page explains how the Chinese Character Stroke Order web tool and browser extension handles your data.

1. Data We Collect

You can use most of the tool without an account. Browsing characters, stroke order, vocabulary and exercises needs no sign-in.

Local storage: We store a random anonymous ID, your theme preference, your progress in the Daily plan and exercises, and any star rating you submit, on your device.

Sign-in (optional): If you sign in with Google, we store your Google account name, email address and profile picture, plus what you choose to save (saved characters, mock exam attempts and their results). Mock exam speaking recordings you make are stored so they can be graded and replayed to you, and you can delete an attempt at any time.

AI features: Text you send to the AI Tutor and Daily chat, and your written and spoken mock exam answers, are processed by third-party AI providers to produce replies and grades. Do not enter sensitive personal information.

Amplitude: We use Amplitude to collect anonymous product analytics — page views, feature usage and errors — tied to a random anonymous ID rather than your name. Signed-in use may be linked to your account ID. You can opt out with your browser's ad-blocking or tracking-protection tools.

2. Browser Extension

The Chrome extension runs content scripts on web pages to detect Chinese characters and display a floating widget. It does not read, store, or transmit page content. It only communicates with hsk-tutor.com when you interact with the widget or icon.

3. Third-Party Services

Google Handwriting API: When you use the Draw feature to recognize a character, your drawn strokes are sent to Google's handwriting recognition API. This is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

Amplitude: Analytics data is processed by Amplitude, Inc., subject to Amplitude's Privacy Policy.

Google Sign-In: Authentication is handled by Google, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Cookies

We use localStorage for your preferences. If you sign in, we set one session cookie to keep you signed in; we do not use advertising cookies.

5. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the tool after changes constitutes acceptance.
