What you need to know for HSK 1

HSK 1 covers about 300 words. The grammar focus is basic word order, 吗 questions, 的, numbers and measure words. Together they let you introduce yourself, greet people, count, tell the time and ask and answer very simple questions about everyday life.

How the HSK 1 exam works

The hsk 1 exam has listening and reading. In the sample paper used for the mock exam there are 40 questions and about 32 minutes of working time. The listening audio plays once, and each section is timed, so practising under the same conditions matters.

How to study for HSK 1

Combine three habits: learn the word list a little every day, practise the grammar in sentences and take a hsk 1 test regularly.

  • Learn the 300 words in small themed groups: family, food, numbers, time.
  • Practise tones from day one with the pronunciation trainer.
  • Read every new word inside a short sentence, not on its own.

After HSK 1

When your mock scores are steady, move on to HSK 2. Your saved results show which sections need more work.
